How we choose what to add next

We approach this in two ways. The first is by taking into consideration the number of assisted living locations in each state and picking those states with the most locations. However, we also have to take into account how well organized a state's data is and if it is possible to organize its data.

The second is by reviewing what our users are asking for. If we have a state listed lower in line but see that we have more requests for that state coming in, we'll add that to the decision criteria.

Frequently asked questions

Why isn't my state covered for assisted living?
Each state has its own assisted living regulator and its own data system. We launched in California first (CCLD), added New York second (NY DOH), Florida third (AHCA), and we're expanding state by state, not all at once, so the data quality holds up. Tell us your state above and we'll email you when we add assisted living for it. (Nursing homes in your state are already covered through federal CMS data.)
Are nursing homes really covered everywhere?
Yes. Federal law requires every Medicare- and Medicaid-certified nursing home in the country to report inspection results to CMS, and that data is public. We track all 14,000 of them across all 50 states, D.C., and territories.
